While we wait for the light

Work in progress for Collect Art Fair

I hope you will enjoy my seasonal updates, just 3-4 a year. This is the best place to see more in depth news about shows & projects, follow work in progress and get a glimpse into the life of a maker.

With a practice spanning over 25 years, I know that a year has a pattern and a rhythm and while I wait for the light to return, the quiet and dark of winter is always a gift. This is the season where my plan for the year of making takes shape, new ideas are tested and I do enjoy hiding in my workshop after the (lovely) disruption of December.

However, my fondness for this season is not simply due to its sense of productivity. I grew up in Scandinavia in a culture which, partly because of its climate, has deeply engrained, shared traditions of embracing the darkness of winter whilst longing for the return of the light. This part of my heritage continues to have a profound influence on my practice. The themes of presence and absence of light and shadows cast run through every piece I make.

Here are the next few events I am taking part in:

Collect Art Fair 2026

For the 5th consecutive year, I will be showing new work at the Collect Art Fair as part of the FIVE Metalwork Collective.

FIVE is a collective of contemporary silversmiths celebrating all metals and inspiring conversations about our material and craft. For Collect 2026, FIVE will showcase a dynamic selection of works by five female makers, Jessica Jue, Angela Cork, Ane Christensen, Anna Lorenz and Kathryn Hinton.

New work from all five makers will respond to this year’s theme, ‘Scale’, exploring the transformative effect of shifting proportions.

To celebrate five years of FIVE and to extend this exploration, past and present members will each produce a pair of miniature works. These will be displayed in collaboration with Goldsmiths’ Fair between both of our stands.

FIVE at Stand W4

27 February - 01 March 2026 (previews 25 & 26 February)
Somerset House, London, UK

Podcast - The Empty Canvas

This was so much fun! I thoroughly enjoyed my conversation with artist, designer and educator Pascal Anson for his podcast series ‘The Empty Canvas’.

“The Empty Canvas invites a series of creative professionals to discuss how they start making work. They share how to prepare physically and mentally, what their studio or workspace looks like and where ideas come from. My fourth guest is Ane Christensen, a contemporary metalworker. We discuss how ideas evolve over time, how rules make you creative and where inspiration might be hiding in plain sight”
